eSIM or roaming: compare a dated Japan plan with US carrier travel pricing

For a US traveller going to Japan, the dated USD rows show $3.99 for Saily's 1 GB and 7 days and $4.00 for Ubigi's 1 GB and 30 days. Verizon's public TravelPass page read on 2026-09-30 states $12 per day in 210+ countries and destinations. The figures describe different services, so the table keeps the service limits beside the arithmetic.

Japan eSIM rows and the Verizon day price

The $8.01 and $8.00 differences are listed-price arithmetic. They do not compare a full Verizon plan with a data-only eSIM: Verizon's source says TravelPass includes unlimited talk, text and data, then unlimited data at 3G speeds after 5 GB of high-speed data for the session.

AT&T and T-Mobile figures remain open

We sent a plain GET to AT&T's International Day Pass page and T-Mobile's international roaming page on 2026-09-30. Both returned HTTP 403 Access Denied responses. No AT&T or T-Mobile price is stated here. A later read should add each carrier's listed daily or plan price before using it in arithmetic.

Airalo and Holafly are omitted because their sites do not let other sites republish their prices.

An example: a traveller who needs 1 GB over seven days in Japan

Take a traveller who needs about 1 GB of data for seven days and is comparing a separate travel eSIM with one Verizon TravelPass day. Among the dated USD rows, Saily is $3.99 for 7 days, which is $8.01 below one Verizon $12 day. Ubigi is $4.00, which is $8.00 below one Verizon day and lasts 30 days. The rows do not establish voice service, roaming coverage quality, taxes, or the traveller's home-carrier plan terms.

What this comparison leaves open

Verizon's page does not list Japan among its destinations, so the TravelPass row is a price reference and not a confirmed Japan price. The AT&T and T-Mobile pages do not provide a price. The eSIM rows show data, days and listed prices; they do not show whether a traveller can keep a home number or what calls and texts cost through a home carrier. Check your phone's eSIM support, the Japan rows, and how the dated prices are read before opening a provider page.
